Red Cross hosts 'disaster preparedness briefing' Wednesday - Cincinnati News, FOX19-WXIX TV

Natural disaster briefing held by local Red Cross

EVANSTON, OH (FOX19) -

If a major disaster were to hit the Tri-State, would we be prepared?

That's the question local leaders were faced Wednesday at a 'disaster preparedness briefing' hosted by the Red Cross.

Keith Alvey, CEO of the Kentuckyiana Region of the Red Cross, shared his personal experiences and perspective on responding to Superstorm Sandy, one of the most devastating disasters to date.

Following Sandy, Alvey was called to lead the massive relief effort in New York. He supervised 3,000 volunteers who provided food, shelter and assistance to thousands of victims.

On Wednesday, Alvey said that people in major metropolitan cities can work together to build resilient communities, in an effort to survive and recover from catastrophes like Sandy.
