David Pepper, activists speak out against federal sequester

FOREST PARK, OH (FOX19) -

Local religious and community leaders spoke out against federal sequestration cuts on Wednesday.

David Pepper, former county commissioner and local attorney, joined Bishop Bobby Hilton and public education activist Pamela Thomas to discuss how the sequester will effect the Tri-State area.

Leaders expressed their concern with how the sequestration cuts will impact education and human services. Pepper says there are other ways to settle the nation's debt 'without putting the entire burden on the middle class and vulnerable'.

They also discussed alternative ways to attack the debt, such as reforms to the nation's tax code.

Speakers described non-profit organizations as a 'safety net' for the community, and feel the sequester will unravel that net.

The event was held at the Word of Deliverance Family Life Center in Forest Park.
