CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - In honor of World Kidney Day on Thursday, health providers hosted an awareness event in the Tri-State.
Health experts gave free 'kidney health risk assessments' on Fountain Square. Event organizers worked with patients and doctors to help raise awareness about the risks associated with kidney disease.
"World kidney day is really about raising awareness about kidney disease and the importance of organ donation. We really want to get the word out. There are currently 26 million Americans that are suffering from kidney disease, and there's another 73 million that are at risk for kidney disease and don't know it," said Brenita Brooks, Regional Vice President for National Kidney Foundation.
Officials with the National Kidney Foundation say one in three Americans are at risk for kidney disease, cause by diabetes, high blood pressure or a family history of kidney disease.
