Baseball Hall of Famer Tommy Lasorda helped out with words and money at a benefit luncheon for a Roman Catholic school near Hamilton yesterday.. The former manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers spoke at the luncheon to benefit Queen of Peace School in Hanover Township. He received a standing ovation from the crowd of about 125 people when he announced that he would donate five thousand dollars to the school. Current Dodgers manager and Hamilton native Jim Tracy also attended the luncheon. Money raised at the benefit will be used for Queen of Peace's general fund that was depleted after the school had to pay more than 20-thousand dollars to replace a boiler. Queen of Peace parishioner Carl Lowenstein is a scout for the Dodgers. He persuaded Lasorda and Tracy to attend the benefit. Lasorda and Tracy signed autographs and posed for pictures after the luncheon.
