Boat explosion sends girl, woman to hospital

Two people have been flown to Maricopa County Medical Center after a boat exploded at Saguaro Lake, according to a Rural Metro representative.

Spokesman Colin Williams said the victims are an 11-year-old girl and a 45-year-old woman. He said the woman is the girlfriend of the young girl's father.

They suffered second- and third-degree burns, he said.

The explosion occurred just after 4:30 p.m.

Saguaro Lake is about 45 miles northeast of the Valley off Bush Highway.

No word on what caused the explosion.
