Crews still searching for missing Sabina woman

WILMINGTON, OH (FOX19) -

Nearly a week after a missing Sabina, Ohio woman's disappearance, police are still searching.

Casey Pitzer, 32, disappeared early Sunday morning, March 17.

SONAR got a hit on a human hair on Tuesday in a pond, so her family presumed her body had been found and that she was dead.

However, Wilmington Police said her body had not yet been found.

"It's understandable that their emotions at this moment are just raw, and they truly feel like we found her but until we actually recover that body it's not a certainty," said Mary Kay Vance with the Wilmington Police Department.

According to Chief Detective Josh Riley of the Wilmington Police Department, Pitzer left a bar on the east side of Wilmington on foot around 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning walking eastbound on US 22&3.  She got into a car which headed south on SR 73.

Shortly after entering SR 73, Pitzer wished to exit the car and the car pulled over to the side of the highway. Pitzer exited the car and ran east across four lanes of traffic and was last seen running toward an area where there is a retention pond that was created when the highway was built.

Pitzer's brother said police told family members that they are confident that Pitzer is in the pond, but they are still searching for her. Authorities say the depth of the pond has made the process more difficult.

"It's a pretty good size, almost a small lake, and when you get with the wind that we've had in the last couple of days, and the cold temperatures, that's hindering their progress," said Vance.

Air search teams were called in along with K9 units to aid in the search. Wilmington Police say bad weather over the last few days has hampered their search efforts.

On Friday, search crews added a third pump in an attempt to expedite the draining of the lake and were searching on the southeast corner of S.R. 73 and 22&3.

Family members, including her sister, Kelly Taylor, believe there was no foul play involved.

"Devastating. I feel like I'm in a movie," said Taylor.

"She was a loving beautiful daughter, a very good mother, a very good daughter and we miss you," said her father, Gregory Pitzer.

Family members said they're thankful for all the support from local organizations, friends, and family.

"A little town Port William where she grew up, that town must be empty because everyone from that little community is here," revealed Pitzer.

Casey is a mother of two young boys. Her father said the older son had a birthday last week who she planned to take out for dinner on Sunday.

Wilmington Police also confirmed that Pitzter's disappearance is still believed to be an accident and no foul play is involved.
