Caught Off-Guard: Man attacked in Middletown laundromat

MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) - Police say a man was unsuspectingly attacked from behind at a laundromat in Middletown.

According to authorities, David Jones, 57, was leaving Mid-Town Laundry on N. Verity Parkway on Sunday when he was suddenly assaulted from behind by a man holding a wooden stick.

The man reportedly ran up behind Jones and started hitting him without saying a word, in an apparent attempt to knock him out. Police say Jones was hit in the head but was able to fight off the suspect, even pulling off his glasses during the altercation. The suspect then ran, getting in his car and driving northbound on Verity Parkway.

Jones, who officers say was bleeding on the left side of his head, was treated at a nearby hospital.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 40s or 50s, balding with a goatee. He was wearing glasses, a long black jacket, blue jeans and tan work boots. He fled the scene in a small, red four door car, possibly a Ford Focus.

Police are now hoping to identify the suspect, caught on the laundromat's security camera.

Anyone with information about the attack or recognizes the individual is asked to contact Det. Meehan at (513) 425-7724.
