Covington firefighters have rejected an agreement with the city that would have settled several collective bargaining issues.
Covington Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 38 released the following statement on Friday:
After considerable discussion, the members of Covington Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 38 (Local 38) have voted to reject an agreement settling multiple collective bargaining agreement violations that would have guaranteed promotions and increased salaries. Accepting the agreement would have limited Local 38's ability to legally restore fire protection staffing to safe levels.
Covington commissioners and union representatives met on Tuesday and approved a measure geared toward, at the very least, guaranteeing a minimum number of firefighters per piece of equipment.
Union members voted on the deal on Wednesday and Thursday.
