Children's Heart Institute to hold sudden heart failure Q&A

(FOX19) - A local heart institute is taking a proactive approach to prevent sudden death in student athletes.

The Heart Institute at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is holding a live, online question and answer session with two of Cincinnati Children's cardiologists.

Families concerned about sudden heart failure are invited to attend.

Jeffrey Towbin, MD, and John Lynn Jefferies, MD, will answer questions to help educate on the connection between genetics and sudden cardiac arrest in student athletes.

Organizers say sudden cardiac arrest is not always preventable, but maintain a proactive approach, helping parents identify potential risk factors, such as family heart history, and providing pre-symptomatic screening.

The event will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 9.
