Reds defeat Nationals 6-3, win series


The Reds defeated the Washington Nationals on Sunday 6-3, winning the rubber match of the series.

The Reds started out strong scoring three in the bottom of the first.

Jay Bruce doubled on a line drive to left driving home Xavier Paul and Joey Votto. Brandon Phillips advanced to third on the play. A ground out by Todd Frazier brought Brandon Phillips home giving the Reds a 3-0 lead.

The Nationals bounced back in the third with a three-run homer to left by Kurt Suzuki tying the game 3-3.

A Reds' rally in the sixth started with a fielder's choice by Xavier Paul driving in Derrick Robinson. Singles by Brandon Phillips and Jay Bruce scored Shin-Soo Choo and Xavier Paul respectively putting the Reds ahead 6-3.

Aroldis Chapman struck out two in the ninth shutting the door on the Nationals.

Cueto gets the win and Chapman gets the save.
