(FOX19) - Get ready to see more orange barrels around town. A new season of road construction is upon us.

On Wednesday, members from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) announced updates for some of their biggest projects in 2013.

Of course motorists will experience traffic delays and headaches as construction season picks up, but both ODOT and KYTC officials stressed the importance and the positive impact the projects will have.

In Ohio, approximately $2 million will be spent on road improvements in 2013. Construction on the mind of many local drivers is the I-75 Mill Creek Expressway Project.

"Regardless of how much dust and noise and whatever inconvenience there is between now and then, by 2016 I guarantee you it will be forgotten," said Jerry Wray with ODOT.

Sharon Smigielski, also with ODOT says I-75 and the interchanges of Mitchell and Hopple Avenue, along with I-74 and Beekman Street should be completed by the end of 2014 and 2015.

"These are all to move traffic through the I-74 corridor more efficiently and safely," she explained.

Nancy Wood of KYTC says south of the Ohio river, one of the main projects is road work on I-471.

"For those of you who remember last year, we did the northbound side. Well this year it's the southbound side," said Wood.

Wood says in 2012, there were five fatalities in work zones throughout Kentucky, three of which happened in the Northern Kentucky area.

There are several projects expected to either start or continue this construction season.
