PENDLETON COUNTY, KY (FOX19) -

A local high school took part in a 'Ghost Out' on Friday to educate students about the dangers of driving under the influence.

The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety surprised students at Pendleton County High School with a 'Grim Reaper', who selected different students throughout the morning. Each participant represented an impaired driving crash victim.

Once separated from classmates, the 'victims' then wrote their own obituary.

During an afternoon school assembly, a mock funeral was held where students looked on as each person was laid to rest.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of teenage deaths, with over 1/3 of those deaths related to drunk driving.
