CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - More than 140 athletes took to the water at the Special Olympics' Hamilton County spring swim meet.
Athletes ages eight and up gathered at Princeton High School on Saturday to partake in the event. Many have been training all year for the popular annual competition.
The Cincinnati Marlins and the Xavier University swim team provided timers, judges, lifeguards and other volunteers.
Athletes competed in the 50, 100 and 200 yard heats in freestyle, breastroke, backstroke and individual medley competitions.
Athletes also competed in the 4-by-25 and 4-by-50 relay races, which featured traditional and unified competitions. Unified events bring Special Olympic athletes together on the same team with athletes without mental and developmental disabilities.
Some of the athletes competing will go on to the Special Olympics Ohio State Summer Games in Columbus beginning June 28.
