KINGMAN, AZ (CBS5) -

The pilot of a single-engine airplane was forced to land his plane in the desert about two miles north of the Nevada-Arizona border Sunday morning after it lost its propeller, according to a spokeswoman for the Mohave County Sheriff's Office.

Charles Louis Rosenfeld, 66, of Sunriver, OR, suffered minor lacerations to his forehead landed his 1946 Engineering and Research 415-C plane about 9:47 a.m. in an area known as the Arizona Strip, said Trish Carter of the sheriff's office.

Rosenfeld called the Beaver Dam Fire Department, and told them he was three miles north of the Mesquite Airport on top of a mesa, Carter said. A helicopter crew found him and directed paramedics to the site.

Rosenfeld told investigators he was about three miles into flying when he noticed a vibration and engine surge. He said he let off the throttle and realized the propeller was gone.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board will conduct the investigation, Carter said.
