EVENDALE, OH (FOX19) -

A SWAT incident turned into a police chase and accident on Monday in Evendale.

Authorities say a they received a report of a man armed with a gun near St. Rita's School for the Deaf. Upon arrival, police located Dominic Taranto around 2:30 p.m., who was reportedly armed.

Police on scene say Taranto appeared intoxicated, was observed drinking alcohol and told police he had been smoking marijuana. A perimeter was made around Taranto's truck, and negotiators spoke with him for almost five hours.

At one point, he reportedly fired one shot into a nearby tree line, while getting in and out of his truck.

Police say a non-lethal attempt was made to subdue him, but was unsuccessful. He then re-entered his vehicle, broke through a police blockade and a pursuit began.

According to authorities, the chase ended when Taranto crashed his truck by a visitor lot of the Ford Plant, located near the 3000 block of Sharon Road.

Taranto suffered self-inflicted, life-threatening injuries and was flown to a nearby hospital. There is no word yet on his condition.

Authorities say the scene remains under investigation.

Several roads in the area were closed by emergency crews during the incident.
