PINAL COUNTY, AZ (CBS5) -

More than 70 animals were taken from a mobile home in rural Pinal County on Monday, including 26 dogs, 30 gerbils and a potbellied pig.

An anonymous tip to Animal Care & Control alerted them of the situation in rural Pinal County's Thunderbird Farm area, south of the city of Maricopa near the Ak-Chin Indian community, according to Pinal County Communications.

Many of the animals were not allowed to go outside, so the home was unsanitary, Animal Control said.

Pinal County Communications said the owner refused to surrender the animals voluntarily, but a judge issued a warrant to seize them after Animal Control established legal grounds for public health, welfare and safety. Animal Control also seized nine roosters, one goat and one bird.

The homeowners were also cited by Pinal County building and safety officials.

Marijuana and a shotgun were located at the scene and taken into custody by Pinal County sheriff's deputies.

Pinal County Communications said the seized animals are not available for adoption at this time. Animal Care & Control has to assess the animals and petition a judge to award custody to Pinal County before determining if any can be rehabilitated and put up for adoption.
