Bushes at Texas ranch, working on convention speeches
It's not all relaxation for President Bush and the first lady at their Texas ranch. They're working on the speeches they will give at the Republican National Convention in about two weeks. White House press secretary Scott McClellan says the president's speech will be "forward-looking," building on what he calls Bush's "record of results."
Her spokesman says Laura Bush's speech will likely say that her husband is a strong and determined leader -- just what's needed right now. President Bush will stay in Texas for about a week. It's his 38th presidential trip to his ranch where he spends time outdoors fishing and clearing brush. McClellan says Bush took a bike ride yesterday and watched some of the Olympics.
