PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Investigators said two suspicious envelopes sent to U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake's office in Phoenix posed no danger.
U.S. Postal Inspector Keith Moore said crews did not find anything hazardous associated with the envelopes Wednesday morning.
Flake's Camelback Road office was evacuated Wednesday morning after a staff member found two suspicious envelopes sent to the Arizona Republican's office.
A statement from Flake's office confirmed the suspicious packages and said the staff member intercepted them before they were opened.
No one said what led the staff to question the envelopes.
Only Flake's suite in the complex at 2201. E. Camelback Rd. was evacuated, Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said.
Three people were taken to hospitals as a precaution, Phoenix Fire Capt. Jonathan Jacobs told CBS 5 News.
Jacobs said one person was treated for an unrelated medical problem and the other two were treated for anxiety-related symptoms.
The incident comes in light of preliminary positive tests for the potentially deadly poison ricin in letters sent to President Barack Obama and Sen. Roger Wicker, R-MS, dated April 8 and postmarked out of Memphis, TN.
Jacos said the ventilation systems were shut down after the discovery of the envelopes, but that the envelopes were put in a hazardous materials container after they were intercepted by the staffer.
Thompson said the evacuations and treatment of two people for possible exposure was simply a part of the "heightened sense of awareness" associated with the terror bombing at the Boston Marathon on Monday and the letters sent to the president and Wicker.
Thompson said he was not aware from where or who might have sent the envelopes. Thompson did say no envelopes were found at Sen. John McCain's Phoenix office in the same Camelback Road complex.
Hazmat crews responded to the suite about 9:30 a.m. Monday after the substance was reported.
Two people looking into the contents of the package were treated outside the complex for exposure as a precaution, Thompson said.
Thompson said the FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Phoenix police and U.S. Postal Service and Phoenix Fire Department were involved in the investigation.
