CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) officials say the Roebling Bridge is back open to traffic after being closed due to repairs.
Crews were conducting an inspection on the north tower after a chunk of sandstone fell from the bridge. KYTC officials say the manlift needed for the inspection broke down.
The bridge was closed 'until further notice' as equipment repairs were made.
This was not the first time the bridge has closed in recent years. In November of 2006, the bridge closed for extensive repairs. During April of 2010, the bridge closed for repainting. The bridge was also closed last October as the weight limit was lowered to three tons following the discovery of a crack in the bridge.
The Roebling Suspension Bridge is a Tri-state staple that has been going strong for almost 150 years. The bridge has an extensive history dating back to 1855.
