Site lists Stan Chesley as retired

Local lawyer Stan Chesley has retired from practicing law.

The Ohio Supreme Court's Attorney Registration lists his status as "permanently retired." Retired attorneys may not practice law in Ohio or hold themselves out as authorized to practice law in Ohio.

Chesley, 77, joined the Ohio bar in 1960 and practiced continuously for 53 years. He has been regarded as one of the nation's most successful lawyers.

The Kentucky Supreme Court disbarred Chesley in March for his actions related to the $200 million Fen Phen settlement.

He resigned from the University of Cincinnati's Board of Trustees on Wednesday.

Chesley says he intends to support and advocate for public and cultural organizations despite his retirement from practicing law.
