Man indicted for 2011 church van accident that claimed the life of a 9-year-old

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

A Hayneville man has been charged with vehicular homicide in connection with a 2011 church van accident that claimed the life of a 9-year-old.

A Montgomery County Grand Jury indicted 28-year-old Hayneville resident, Mance McCall, on charges of vehicular homicide and criminally negligent homicide.

Authorities say McCall ran a red light while driving with improper tires and brakes when his 1997 Pontiac Grand Am plowed into the Inner City Church of Christ Van back in December 2011.

The van was on its way home from Sunday services at the time of the accident. The accident claimed the life of a child - 9-year-old Joy Carlisle and injured six other passengers.

McCall was taken to the hospital with minor injuries following the accident. Authorities say he was issued citations at the hospital for no driver's license and no proof of insurance at the time of the accident.

Court documents show McCall was indicted on April 5, 2013. He was arrested and booked into the Montgomery County Detention Facility on April 23. He is being held on $75,000 bond.
