Xavier holds run/walk for Boston

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A one-mile walk/run around the Xavier University campus was held on Thursday to support the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing.

The event began in front of Bellarmine Chapel. Shirts were sold for $20, with proceeds benefiting "One Fund Boston," set up by Boston officials to help bombing victims.

Malia Smolenski of Loveland was one of the organizers of Xavier's Nearly Naked Mile run, which raises funds for Xavier's Interfaith Medical Mission to Guatemala. Smolenski wanted to do something to remember and help the victims of the Boston bombs, so she thought of how powerful the Nearly Naked Mile was and decided to resurrect it for this cause.

Mouhamed Ndoye, of Sidney, Ohio, a participant in the 2012 Guatemala medical trip, designed the Run To Remember T-shirt.

The race was sponsored by Xavier's Center for Interfaith Community Engagement.
