CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Investigators in Charlotte say an assault case has now turned into a homicide after the victim died from complications more than 13 years later.

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide/ADW Unit are conducting an investigation that occurred along the 2500 block of Pinckney Avenue at 6:35 a.m. on September 26, 1999.

Officers say they responded in reference to an assault with deadly weapon call for service.

When they arrived, officers found then 39-year-old Olando Blackwell suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.  He was treated and released from Carolinas Medical Center.

Detectives charged and arrested then 46-year-old Nathaniel Love, Senior.  He served time for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury for his involvement in the case and was later released.

Love passed away in 2012.

Blackwell passed away on Friday in California due to complications from his injuries he sustained on September 26, 1999.

As a result of Blackwell's death this case has now been classified as a Homicide.  Detectives are not looking for any additional suspects.
