TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Dozens of friends and family members lit candles in front of Nathaniel Phillips' home in Springfield Township Monday night.

Phillips was found dead in a west Toledo parking lot early Monday with several gunshot wounds. Toledo Police say so far they have not made any arrests, and Phillips' family says they have no idea who would want him dead.

"I just can't believe that it happened," said Bridget Holland, Phillips' mother. "I mean, he is such a good person. I can't believe that somebody would do this."

Police say 21-year-old Phillips was found just after midnight in the parking lot of the Twin Oaks apartment complex near Reynolds Road. Michael Kohlhofer, Jr., 19, was shot in the leg.

According to police, witnesses said two men had knocked on the door of the apartment, were let inside, and a suspect hit one person in the head, then a suspect opened fire.

"He didn't deserve nothing like this," said Katina Coleman, Phillips' stepmother. "He was a beautiful child, respectful, loving. We just want to know why and who, as soon as possible."

Police urge anyone with information on the crime to call Crimestopper at 419-255-1111.

"He was a great kid," said Phillips' father Vaughn. "It's a horrible loss and I hope there's swift justice, because he needs that. We need that."
