TUCSON, AZ (CBS5) -

Transnational criminal organizations operating in Arizona's west desert were targeted by joint enforcement operations.

Last week's effort resulted in the seizure of 1,734 pounds of marijuana and multiple two-way radios.

West Desert Task Force members, working with a U.S. Customs and Border Protection air and Marine aircraft located an abandoned vehicle and 780 pounds of marijuana south of Vekol Valley.

On Friday, Ajo and Casa Grande Station agents assigned to the task force found 43 bales of abandoned marijuana and two ATVs near Cocklebur. The dope, weighing 954 pounds, was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

On Sunday, officers and task force agents discovered two additional ATVs and various pieces of communication equipment, including six radios and a repeater, southwest of Casa Grande. A tracking operation was initiated, but no arrests were made.

The West Desert Task Force is comprised of officers and agents from the Ajo and Casa Grande Border Patrol stations; U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations and the Pinal County Sheriff's Office.
