Cincinnati joins in on National Day of Prayer

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Cincinnati joined cities throughout the country in observing this year's National Day of Prayer.

The public joined local clergy on the steps of the Hamilton County Courthouse at noon on Thursday.

There were frief prayers for specific elements of our society as well as special music provided by the Choir and Symphonic Wind and String Ensemble of God's Bible School and College. Meanwhile, Project Nehemiah hosted local pastors, clergy, congregants and students on the steps of Cincinnati City Hall  to pray for healing and restoration.

The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America, evidenced by the Continental Congress' proclamation in 1775 setting aside a day of prayer. In 1952 Congress established a an annual day of prayer and in 1988 the law was amended designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.
