(RNN) - Break out the lightsabers and speak like Yoda – it's Star Wars Day.
Today, fans of the movies commonly say "May the Fourth be with you" as a play on the series' popular phrase "May the Force be with you."
George Lucas, who understood product licensing and merchandising in 1977 before the rest of us, has turned www.starwars.com over to the fan-created holiday. Even within that site, there is a May the Fourth "microsite," which is more like a blog of events and or DIY Star Wars gear, like a Princess Leia Cina-Bun Headgear.
The website offers e-cards to send friends, new online games, and pairs of photos to put on your Facebook timeline and taking advantage of the allotted two-image feature.
For some May the Fourth party tips, head over to the Star Wars YouTube channel. Or, you can watch some propaganda by the Empire in the style of all those political campaigns we saw last fall. According to the Empire, May the Fourth is a dangerous holiday and the Force is used to haunt people after death.
And now that Disney has purchased the Star Wars franchise from Lucas Films, the Happiest Place on Earth has turned today over to honoring the characters from a galaxy far, far away.
Not quite up on all your Star Wars characters and vernacular? Head over to Wookieepeida, the online Star Wars encyclopedia.
So, May the Fourth be with you. Enjoy the day, you will!
