Young volunteers collect canned goods for food pantry

(FOX19) - The efforts of young volunteers collecting canned goods for the Northeast Emergency Distribution Service (NEEDS) food pantry did not go unnoticed.

Sycamore's E. H. Greene School and All Saints were among those who answered the Feinstein Challenge by working diligently to ensure that their hungry neighbors could find local help.

NEEDS is a community of 25 churches and civic organizations whose mission is to do God's work through caring for their neighbors by providing basic emergency assistance.  NEEDS is an all-volunteer cooperative group located in the Kenwood Baptist Church.

The NEEDS board oversees an active foodbank, as well as provides neighbors-in-need with housing and utility payment assistance. NEEDS serves more than 2,000 people in northeastern Hamilton County.

For the past 3 years, NEEDS has participated in the Feinstein Challenge.

The Feinstein Foundation will match monetary donations as well as in-kind food pantry contributions collected during March and April as part of its Feinstein Challenge.

The Feinstein Foundation then divides and distributes $1 million among agencies that feed hungry families in their community.

Any community group can collect canned goods and other non-perishable food items or raise monetary funds for NEEDS.
