Distracted driving simulator visits Dayton HS

DAYTON, KY (FOX19) - Local high school students are learning about the dangers of distracted driving.

The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety brought its driving simulator to Dayton High School on Tuesday.

The simulator offers real-life exposure to the dangers of distracted driving without the actual risk. It mimics the handling characteristics of a real vehicle, so students can try to send and receive phone calls and text messages while attempting to obey the rules of the road.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, text messaging creates a crash risk 23x worse than driving while not distracted.
