CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -
A fund has been set up for a La Salle High School student who remains hospitalized at UC Medical Center.
On April 29, a 17-year-old student attempted suicide in a classroom at the school with a handgun. The student's name was reported due to a request by his parents.
On Tuesday, his family issued a statement thanking the community for their support:
"We are truly overwhelmed at the outpouring of well wishes from family, friends, the medical staff at UC Medical, and those of absolute strangers reaching out to help us. Words cannot express how blessed we feel. We have a long road ahead of us but we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We are trying to remain strong for our son and each other. We ask that you continue to keep our son in your prayers. Thank you."
Hospital officials say several community members have called the hospital wishing to donate to the boy's medical expenses. As a result, a fund was set up for those wishing to help.
Those interested in making a contribution can do so at Fifth Third Bank under 'Poynter Family Fund'.
The family continues to ask that their son's first name remain protected.
