LEBANON, OH (FOX19) -
A dedication ceremony was held on Friday for a memorial for Warren County Sheriff's Sgt. Brian Dulle.
The Dulle Memorial is located in the area of the other memorials on the Warren County government campus.
Sgt. Dulle's widow, Abbie, and their three children participated in the dedication ceremony.
"Brian was a very sentimental person. He wouldn't throw away
something that my dad gave me...a tool or a hammer and although he was very
private and didn't like a lot of fanfare this will mean a lot to him and he
knows his grandkids can come here and see something 50 years from now," explained Dulle's father, Ed Dulle.
Sgt. Dulle was struck and killed by a suspect's vehicle while deploying stop sticks at the intersection of U.S. 42 and Utica Road in May of 2011.
The pursuit had been initiated by the Franklin Police Department and traveled into Warren County. The suspect, Marcus Isreal, ran one cruiser off the road and into a ditch on U.S. 42 before continuing towards Utica Road.
After striking Sergeant Dulle the suspect fled on foot but was arrested several hours later following a manhunt.
In October of 2011, Isreal was convicted of murder and seven other charges in connection with the incident, and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
A stretch of U.S. Route 42 in Lebanon has been renamed the Sgt.
Brian Dulle Memorial Highway as a reminder to passing motorists of a man who
laid down his life for law and order.
Sgt. Dulle was a U.S. Army veteran and had served with the Warren County Sheriff's Office for 12 years. He is survived by his wife, three children, parents, and two siblings. He is buried in Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon, Warren County, Ohio.
