Sen. Portman to speak at 2013 LULAC convention

CLIFTON, OH (FOX19) - U.S. Senator Rob Portman will serve as the keynote speaker for the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) of Ohio's State Convention.

The annual convention draws hundreds of participants each year, including top leaders from government, education, health and business and more. Attendees discuss critical issues within the Hispanic/Latino population.

The theme of the Convention is "Current Issues Facing the Latino Community."

Breakout sessions will be held on immigration, education, health and social services.

During the convention, LULAC Ohio will also announce expansion efforts of eight new councils throughout Ohio, including a Women's Council and the first LGBT Council in Ohio; one Youth Council and two Young Adult Councils in Cincinnati, and the first LULAC Council in Cleveland.

"We are excited about the LULAC expansion in Ohio which will provide more programs and opportunities for our Hispanic community," said Lourdes Ribera, Director for LULAC Ohio.

The State Convention is Saturday, May 11 from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the University of Cincinnati's Tangeman University Center.
