NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) -

If you don't feel like cooking up some Italian culture, there are plenty of restaurants around the Tri-state.

Stephanie Woods checked out Pompilio's in Newport for her little slice of Italy in Cincinnati.

Pompilio's has been a Northern Kentucky institution long before Rain Man filmed here in 1988.

But most patrons prefer forks to toothpicks, and now Newport's Pompilio's serves food more Italian than pancakes.

Pompilio's is celebrating it's 80th anniversary this year, making it one of the oldest Italian restaurants in the Tri-State. Frank Mazzei bought the restaurant in 1982. Now more than 30 years later, the restaurant's in his nephew, Mike's, hands.

After eating the food, it's time to  burn off the carbs with bocce. The Italian bowling game dates back to the Roman Empire. Pompilio's is keeping it alive with a summer bocce league.
