HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

A University of Hartford student is facing several charges including operating a drug factory after police said they found drugs and nearly ten thousand dollars of cash in his dorm room.

Police were sent to the UHart campus after getting reports that a student fired a BB gun on campus around 10:30 p.m. Campus police said the student, identified as Tonia Wonde, 22, of Lynn, MA, was found in his dorm room and he admitted to firing off the weapon.

Campus police said there was also a strong odor of marijuana and asked Wonde if there was any in the room.

He said yes and opened a safe that included marijuana and money.

During the investigation police seized the following items:

  • Three ounces of marijuana in 14 bags
  • Three safes, two electronic scales
  • $9,725
  • Black Arms BB gun
  • Daisy Power Line 201 BB gun
  • One gray tube
  • Clear glass pipe
  • Metal grinding instrument
  • Barber's razor

Hartford police were called and Wonde was arrested.

"It concerns me a little bit. This is a very good school," said parent Anthon Gaines, who was picking up her daughter for the end of the year. "My daughter had a very good experience here and to hear that on the last day of her being here. It's discouraging."

Wonde was charged with breach of peace, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, possession of marijuana, possession with the intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a drug factory and sale within 1,500 feet of a school.

Police said when Wonde arrived at police headquarters for an interview, investigators found more marijuana in his backpack.

Wonde was held on $125,000 bond and arraigned at Hartford Superior Court on Monday.
