Man arrested following Middletown stabbing

MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) -

A woman is suffering serious injuries following a stabbing in Middletown.

Police responded to a disturbance in the 3100 block of Elman Court around 11:10 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Officers arriving on the scene found a female victim lying on the sidewalk suffering from serious injuries to her torso area from being cut.

The victim was transported to Atrium hospital.

Authorities discovered Joseph Pate inside his apartment covered in blood. Police say they observed several cuts on Pate's chest as well. Pate's cuts were later determined to be self-inflicted.

Pate was transferred to Atrium Medical Center for treatment and later booked into Middletown City Jail. Along with assault, Pate faces traffic charges stemming from an earlier incident in which Pate caused a crash and fled the scene.

There is no word on the victim's condition at this time.
