NEW YORK (KCTV) -

The Rachael Ray show flew a puppy to New York that survived a month inside a locked car at Kansas City's tow lot.

Ray and guest co-host Regis Philbin fawned over Kia, who was accompanied by Tori Fugate, manager of marketing and development for the Kansas City Pet Project.

"Is she not precious?" Ray cooed as she cuddled with the tiny Kia. "She is such a cutie."

Kia survived inside the impounded Buick at a Kansas City tow lot by foraging on leftovers in fast-food bags and, apparently, cigars. She had crawled onto the dashboard of the fetid vehicle and was spotted by a worker.

"She is really adorable. She has really defied all odds, and we're just glad to give her a second chance at life," Fugate said.

Philbin was also smitten with the 14-week-old puppy, who weighed just 3 pounds and was extremely dehydrated when she was rescued.

"It's hard to believe. She's just a little baby go through this situation," the television icon said.

The nearly four-minute segment aired Friday morning. Ray emphasized the animals, including Kia, available for adopting at the municipal animal shelter.

A long line to adopt Kia has already formed and it's likely to grow after the national attention.

Kia has been in a foster home, where she is thriving, Fugate said. She now weighs 5 pounds. She is learning commands and potty training.

But that training didn't pay off when she tinkled on the Rachael Ray show's grass-like carpeting. Ray didn't miss a beat and praised the puppy.

"Good girl!" she exclaimed.

Fugate said the hope is to find the puppy a forever home soon.
