CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

As we continue our series, "Around the World in Cincinnati," our Tracey Johnson shares the connection they have with the Nigerian community here in the tri state.

Tracey says that she knew it would be a trip of a lifetime for her family but she never imagined that their first trip to west Africa would not be the last.

In June of 2008, Tracey, her husband and their three children arrived at a small village in Kogi State, Nigeria.

They family was traveling with their friend who is both a Nigerian and a doctor.

The family greeted by 300 children.

In the midst of all this was a beautiful little girl with huge eyes a smile that would melt their heart.

She clung to Tracey's daughter Lacey and found her way into the arms of Tracey's sons, Luke and Landon.

For three weeks, the little girl became a part of their family.

Little did they know it was a new beginning for all of them.

Three years later, Genevieve Salifu Hardwick would leave her native land to become a part of Tracey's family.

Tracey and her family committed to keeping Genevieve's roots a part of her new world.

Luckily, they have a new friend that's helping them do just that.

Bauko Moses was born and raised in Nigeria. In 2002, he made his way to the United States.

Bauko is also a member of Anointed Church of Christ. The church opened it doors 11 years ago.

Revered Doctor Isaiah Ojo is the founding pastor. Rev. Ojo says he was called by his peers in Nigeria to come to Cincinnati to offer his people a place to call home and to worship as they are accustomed to.

Tracey says when the family visited the Anointed Church of Christ, Genevieve felt at home.
