NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A former dean of the Meharry Medical College School of Medicine has once again been tapped as interim president of the Nashville institution.

A. Cherrie Epps, Ph.D., steps in for Meharry President Dr. Wayne J. Riley as Riley goes on sabbatical, the school announced Monday.

Epps is a professor of internal medicine and serves as a senior advisor to the president and dean emeritus. Among her previous positions, Epps was interim president in 2007 and has been senior vice president for academic affairs.

The school did not release information on when Riley is expected to return.
