It's a dilemma for many parents each and every year.  What to do with the that they're almost out of school?

Many working parents are now scurrying to find care and programs for their children during the summer. And, it can be costly.

"The need is so big for families, you're like 'what am I going to do this summer?'"

It's a question most parents ask themselves.

Jason Watson is no different.

"Our 12 year old...we don't let her stay at home by herself."

Not only is he the publisher of Montgomery Parents magazine, But he's right there where most parents are...right now.

"My wife and I are walking about the house saying what can we get her involved in? Looking for ideas."

His May edition is about just that--listing summer camps and programs offered throughout the River Region.

"Adventure and art camps, drama camps, dance and gymnastics, day camps," says Watson.

The good thing is "there are options for all the budgets that your family has."

And one thing to remember if you're strapped for cash is "ask for scholarships," adds Watson.

If summer camp isn't the best fit for your child and they're old enough to stay at home during the day, police say there are some things you should know before you leave them home alone.

"We wanna make sure that we are using our doors and our locks. If we have a bolt lock, we're using that bolt lock.  You want to make sure your window locks that are below your window are gonna be closed," says Corporal David Hicks with the Community Policing division of the Montgomery Police Department.

Hicks says, to stay alone, your kids should be old enough to use a phone, too.

"They know how to contact the police department, they know the emergency contact list."
