NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A father is facing charges after police said he left his young kids in a hot car Monday in the Gulch area of downtown.

Police said the dad, Tranquilino Camaja-Lajon, went to orientation for a new job and brought his kids along with him.

According to jail records, the car was unlocked with the kids inside at 12th Avenue and Laurel Street.

Someone noticed a 2 and 4-year-old sweating in the back seat and called police. Camaja-Lajon was charged with child neglect.

The arresting officer wrote in the police report it was 80 degrees outside when this happened.

The dad told the officer the children were in the car about 15 minutes. However, a contractor at the scene told police the dad sat through an orientation video for at least 45 minutes.

The Department of Children Services was notified of the situation. The children were released into the custody of their mother.
