Boater sentenced for fatal accident

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A boater who caused a fatal crash on the Ohio River was sentenced on Thursday.

Glenn Riegelsberger will spend the next four years behind bars for the death of Jeffery Foster.

Riegelsberger was sentenced on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular assault.

Riegelsberger is charged with causing the death of Foster on June 9, 2012 when both men were boating, in separate boats, on the Ohio River near Riverside Park in Sedamsville.

Witnesses reported that Riegelsberger was operating his boat at an excessive speed in the harbor area. The boat that Riegelsberger was piloting ran over the top of the victim's boat, causing serious injury to Foster and his passenger, Jennifer Holwadel.

The bow of Riegelsberger's boat struck Foster in the head. Foster was transported to University Hospital where he died two days later. Holwadel sustained a broken back in the incident.

Riegelsberger docked his boat after running over Foster's boat and fled from the scene on foot. Police found alcohol in Riegelsberger's boat when they searched it soon after the incident.
