PHOENIX (CBS5) -

The Arizona attorney general's office is investigating several incidents of charity scams arising from Sunday's deaths of two first responders.

Phoenix police Officer Daryl Raetz was killed in the line of duty while working the scene of a DUI arrest near 51st Avenue and Cambridge early Sunday morning.

Phoenix firefighter Brad Harper, 23, was killed over the weekend after he was pinned between two fire department vehicles while responding to a mulch fire near 39th Avenue and Miami Street.

Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne said his office has received complaints that charity scammers are using the first responders' deaths for their own financial gain.

"I am always saddened to see these kinds of scams appear when there is a tragedy such as the death of a first-responder, and my office will do all it can to warn consumers and prosecute anyone caught operating a charitable scam," Horne said.

The Professional Fire Fighters of Arizona website has information on how to contribute to the Harper family at http://pffaz.org/, and the 100 Club of Arizona has information about how to contribute to the Harper family, as well as the family of Officer Reatz at their website at http://www.100club.org/web/100Club.
