Smoke shop clerk attacked during glass pipe theft

Metro police say one of the men suspected in an assault and vandalism case at a south Nashville smoke shop has been arrested.

Jarrett Alphonso Boone, 28, and another man were accused of showing up May 16 at the Smoke Token Smoke Shop on Harding Place to complain about a glass pipe they had purchased that had broken.

Police say the pair then picked up a pipe worth $700 and tried to leave with it. That led to a confrontation with an employee, and the men then attacked the employee, who suffered a head injury.

Boone and his accomplice stopped the alleged assault and fled after another employee retrieved a gun, police said.

Another clerk who was working at the time said she was shocked that things escalated.

"You don't come to work thinking 'something is going to happen to me today.' You should never feel like that. That should never be the case. You should never worry about something like that happening," said store clerk Victoria Bell.

Boone is charged with aggravated assault and felony vandalism.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of the other suspect, call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
