TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A man was shot Saturday afternoon in central Toledo, as children competed in a softball game nearby.

It happened at Robinson Middle School off of Woodruff Avenue near Grand Avenue.

Officers say the suspect shot the victim once, but at least 3 shots were fired. One bullet hit an ice cream truck.

The shooting victim, Ernest Reed, was taken to an area hospital, but his injuries were not life-threatening.

The shooter fled the scene.

"Whoever is shooting out here, is senseless. Put down the gun," said Yonnetta Scurles, the cousin of the shooting victim. "Anybody could've gotten killed. You don't know if it's your sister, son, daughter, baby, cousin. It doesn't matter who it is. It's somebody's child. Somebody loves that child," said Scurles.

Police later arrested Benjamin James Besteder Jr. shortly before midnight on Saturday for the shooting. He was booked in the Lucas County Corrections Center.

Besteder faces three counts of felonious assault with a weapon.

He is scheduled for an arraignment on Tuesday, May 28,
