CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A man was convicted of abducting a cab driver, stuffing him in the trunk of his cab and then leading police on a chase.

Charles Black, 30, was convicted Friday of several charges, including aggravated robbery, felonious assault and kidnapping.

Investigators say Mulugeta Shiferaw was driving his West Side Cab on Sept. 8, 2012 when he received a call to pick up Black somewhere in the downtown/Over-the Rhine area.

At some point, Black locked Shiferaw in the trunk of the cab and kept him there for approximately 10 hours.  The police were contacted when Shiferaw's fellow cabbies could not locate him.

Police pursued the vehicle twice for a total of approximately 22-24 minutes and finally stopped the cab at approximately 7 p.m. when Black crashed in Elmwood.

Black ran from the cab but the police were able to apprehend him at 601 Township in Elmwood. Shiferaw was found in the trunk of the cab with serious injuries.

He remains hospitalized and is expected to be permanently disabled as a result of his abduction.

According to prosecutors, Black was sentenced to 55 years in prison.
