CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - More than 4,000 runners and walkers hit the pavement on Memorial Day to raise money for the Freestore Foodbank.
The 10th annual Hunger Walk and 5K Run took off at Sawyer Point.
Organizers say the Freestore Foodbank can purchase three meals for just $1. Participants in the Hunger Walk can therefore make a direct impact on the lives of those less fortunate.
"We had a little rain earlier, tried to damper our spirits but you can't keep the Freestore down, and these runners and walkers will be out here in droves doing what they need to do to support our neighbors in need," said Kurt Reiber, Freestore Foodbank President and CEO.
According to the event's website, the Hunger Walk has raised almost $1 million over the past decade.
The Freestore says there is an even greater need for children in need during summer break because they won't receive free and reduced lunches.
