WINTON TERRACE, OH (FOX19) - Cincinnati Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Winton Terrace.
Officers were called to the 5000 block of Winneste Avenue around 2:30 a.m. for reports of a man running outside with a gun.
Officer Kraig Kunz responded and found a man matching the suspect's description, who was later identified as Eric Jones, 43.
Acting Police Chief Paul Humphries says Jones repeatedly ignored requests by police to stop and kept his right hand in his pocket. Jones continued walking and before opening a door and turning toward the officer.
Officer Kunz noticed Jones was in possession of a black handgun. That's when Kunz fired one shot at Jones, hitting him in the hip.
Jones was treated at UC Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
A loaded .45 caliber handgun was recovered from the scene.
Kunz is on paid administrative leave, which is standard. He has been with the Cincinnati Police Department since 2006 and does not have any prior incidents involving shots fired.
The case will be turned over to the Prosecutor's Office to determine any charges that will be filed.
