FORT MITCHELL, KY (FOX19) - An 18-year-old woman has died in a home invasion in Fort Mitchell.

Michaela C. Briede was found dead in an apartment on West Chelsea Circle, off Buttermilk Pike.

Police say at least one suspect forced their way into the apartment late Tuesday night. Police believe the home invasion was not a random act and the apartment was specifically targeted. A male who was at the apartment at the time of the shooting has been interviewed by police.

One neighbor said he heard arguing, then a loud bang. He saw two people flee the residence.

"It's always hard to hear of anyone passing, but a former student, it hits you very hard," said Ken Taylor, Briede's former social studies teacher at Grant County High School.

Briede was an honor student and graduated in 2012 from Grant County High School and believed to be enrolled at Thomas More College. One of her former classmates said this about her "she was always so funny and nice to everyone."

Authorities say homicides of this nature are rare in Ft. Mitchell.

"This is something that is very rare in Ft. Mitchell. Probably going back 20 to 30 years," said Rob Sanders, Kenton County Commonwealth Attorney.

The investigation is continuing. An autopsy is being performed to determine the official cause of death.

No information has been released about the suspect.

Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers at 513-352-3040.
