Duke Energy wants to pay people for their old refrigerators so they can be recycled.
Studies show that older model refrigerators use up to three times more energy than newer models.
"We will break, de-manufacture that refrigerator or freezer and we are able to recycle more than 95% of that. So in addition to the convenience and ease of enrollment we'll also send them a check for $30," said John Langston, Duke Energy appliance recycling.
