Findlay Market celebrates German heritage

OVER THE RHINE, OH (FOX19) - Findlay Market is celebrating Cincinnati's German Heritage this weekend with German Day Weekend.

German Day Weekend marks the 118th anniversary of the celebration of German Day. According to Dr. Don Heinrich Tolzmann, president of the German-American Citizens League, the celebration is the oldest German Day celebration in the United States.

Saturday's kickoff began at 10:30 a.m. with opening ceremonies and a parade at the historic Findlay Market.  The program included performances by the Fairview-Clifton German Language School, The Donauschwaben Dancers and the Old St. Mary's Church Kellerchor. Music was provided by the Vereins-Musikanten and the Germania Jagdhorn Group.

The celebration continues Sunday with hourly raffles and one grand raffle at 5:30 p.m. This year's grand prize is a dinner for 30 at Cincinnati's Hoffbrauhaus.

German Day Weekend promotes German heritage in Cincinnati and serves as the fundraiser for the German Heritage Museum.
